General Information





The Department of Animal Science Production is made up of five units, Animal Clinic, Diagnostic Lab, Field Lab, Nutritional Lab and Student Enterprise Project

Diagnostic Laboratory

The laboratory consists of three sections:–
  • Microbiology [Block 312/ 009]
  • The Microbiology section is used mainly for teaching practical lessons in bacteriology, parasitology and haematology and processing samples from the Animal Health Clinic and the Pathology section.
  • Pathology [Block 312/006]
  • The Pathology section is responsible for conducting post mortems of field cases and those coming from the clinic and the BCA Farm. It also demonstrates to students gross postmortem lesions. The section reports to the clients the post mortem findings and suggests treatment and control measures.
  • Anatomy and Physiology [Block 312/004]
  • The Anatomy and Physiology section houses the tissue processing unit which prepares slides for histopathological diagnosis. The laboratory also conducts practical classes in anatomy and physiology.
About 20 - 25 students can be accommodated in one practical class in each section.

Major equipment / facility

Incubators, autoclaves, centrifuges (including refrigerated), ultra low freezer, Elisa-Multiskan with diluter, phase contrast microsope, Compound microscopes with digital cameras, tissue processing unit, embedding machine, rotary microtome, Vet test and chiller room.
